About Our Surgeon and Medical Staff

André R. Nunn, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Nunn earned his undergraduate degree in biology and chemistry at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1985 and his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 1990. In 1995, he completed his residency in general surgery at Marshall University School of Medicine in Huntington, West Virginia.

Dr. Nunn was on staff at the Detroit Medical Center for 12 years before joining Barix Clinics, and has been a clinical assistant professor of surgery since 2000. He obtained certification from the American Board of Surgery in 1997 and became a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (F.A.C.S.) in 1998. He has received numerous honors, including the Wayne State Department of Surgery Theodore McGraw Clinical Faculty Teaching Award in 2001. He was also recognized as one of Hour Magazine’s “Top Doctors in Detroit” in 2003.

Stephanie Perdue — Certified Physician Assistant

Stephanie Perdue is a certified Physician Assistant specializing in surgery. She received her undergraduate degree in biopsychology and cognitive science; she went on to receive her Masters Degree as a physician assistant at Cornell University. She then returned to Michigan and was employed for 3 years in surgery at Sinai Grace Hospital. Stephanie joined Detroit Bariatrics in June of 2007. Her responsibilities include determining if a patient is a candidate for surgery, evaluating patients, both pre and post operatively and assisting in the operating room. Stephanie is a welcome addition to the team.

Rachel Kapp, RD — Bariatric Program Coordinator

Rachel Kapp is a Registered Dietitian through the American Dietetics Association. She has her degree in Dietetics and Human Nutrition with a specialization in Health Promotions from Michigan State University. Rachel has been in the nutrition field for over five years and worked in a variety of settings from private health clubs, to hospitals, helping people lose weight, eat right and maintain overall health. Rachel has experience working with bariatric patients in a hospital setting. Rachel is a member of the Michigan Dietetic Association, as well as the American Dietetic Association and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. In addition to functioning as our Dietitian Rachel is also our Program Coordinator.

Tenecia Norris — Registered Medical Assistant

Tenecia Norris is a registered Medical Assistant who has multiple duties. She is one of the main medical assistants to the Group Practice here at Barix. Tenecia is also a trained phlebotomist. She obtained her training at National Institute of Technology in Livonia, MI where she also taught upcoming medical assistants. She has been in the medical field for 16 years and has been a part of the Barix team for 3 years.

Tenecia’s has multiple duties, her main responsibilities are patient care, scheduling appointments, ordering inventory, stocking exam rooms, assisting in obtaining clearance tests for upcoming surgical patients. Her duties also include phlebotomy in other areas of the hospital as needed. She removes sutures and staples and performs EKG’s and packing wounds. She also serves as a volunteer at the American Red Cross.

Kristen Palka — Office Manager

Kristen Palka is the office manager for Detroit Bariatrics. She attended the University of Michigan-Dearborn where she received her BA in political science with a minor in criminal justice. She formally worked at a financial institution which helps her to oversee the financial aspect of our office. Kristen has spent several years in customer relations which will ensure that all our patients have a positive experience with Detroit Bariatrics.

Patricia "Pat" Tinsley — Insurance Specialist, Certified Medical Assistant

Pat is our on staff Insurance Specialist. She has been in the medical field for over 15 years. She schedules all of our surgeries and ensures that all co-pays and deductible information is correct. She is a great asset to our team.

Susan "Sue" Reister — Insurance Specialist and Medical Biller

Sue Reister is our medical billing specialist. She has over 15 years of experience. She attended Wayne State University and was certified as a pharmacy technician. She has also attended specialized programs through BCBS and Medicare. Sue handles all aspects of the billing process. This includes verifying all information, billing all insurance companies, handling all rejections and patient statements.

Alicia Leigh — Assistant Biller

Alicia is the assistant biller for both practices. She is a graduate of Baker College, with a certification in medical billing. She assists in handling all aspects of the billing process. This includes verifying all information, billing all insurance companies, handling all rejections and patient statements.
